    Breaking the Monopoly: What HAL’s Exit Means for India’s 5th Gen Fighter Jet Ambitions

    In a major policy change of the defence aerospace industry in India, the country's largest & state owned aerospace manufacturer, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), has been passed over in the race to build the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), India’s ambitious indigenous fifth-generation fighter program. Only three players from the private defence industries, Tata Advanced Systems, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), and Bharat Forge, have been shortlisted to partner with the Aeronautical Development Agency in building the prototypes of the aircraft.

    India's HAL has signed a deal with Russia's UAC to manufacture the SJ-100 commuter jet in India

    India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) to jointly manufacture the SJ-100 (Sukhoi Superjet 100) regional commuter jet in India. This move marks the country’s return to passenger aircraft production after several decades, since HAL’s AVRO HS-748 program ended in 1988.
