TravelPerk’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the company saw revenues plummet as global business travel ground to a halt. However, it has since rebounded spectacularly, with revenues now five times higher than pre-pandemic levels. “We had to be scrappy and build a strong foundation during the tough times,” said Jean-Christophe Taunay-Bucalo, TravelPerk’s President and COO. “Now, we’re reaping the rewards of that resilience.” Key Moves: Acquisitions and Fintech Ambitions TravelPerk’s latest funding will fuel three major initiatives: Investors see massive potential in corporate travel’s post-pandemic resurgence. The sector is now valued at $1.5 trillion globally, up 6% from 2019. “Corporate travel is a mammoth area of spend,” said Hillary Ball, Partner at Atomico. “TravelPerk solves a complex problem by centralizing bookings, expenses, and compliance into one platform.” Despite OpenAI’s recent launch of Operator—an AI agent that plans trips and books reservations—TravelPerk remains unfazed. “We’ll test new AI tools, but change doesn’t happen overnight,” said Taunay-Bucalo. “Our focus is on building solutions that truly meet corporate needs, not chasing hype.” Despite its $2.7 billion valuation, TravelPerk has no immediate plans to go public. “We want to be here in 100 years,” Taunay-Bucalo emphasized. “We’re playing the long game, prioritizing customer satisfaction over quick exits.” TravelPerk’s meteoric rise from pandemic woes to a $2.7 billion valuation highlights the resilience of corporate travel and the power of strategic acquisitions.
