UK self-driving startup Oxa raises $103M from Nvidia, BP British autonomous driving startup Oxa has raised $103 million in Series D funding, with Nvidia's venture capital arm NVentures among the investors as the Oxford-based company looks to scale its industrial self-driving technology across ports, airports, and warehouses. BP Ventures, IP Group, and Australian pension fund Hostplus also participated in the round. Industrial Autonomy Over Robotaxis Unlike high-profile robotaxi developers focused on passenger cars, Oxa has carved out a niche in what founder Paul Newman calls "industrial mobile autonomy", automating the movement of goods and materials in controlled environments with less traffic and fewer pedestrians. "We think trying to do that in the passenger car space is super, super hard," Newman told Reuters . "In the industrial space, it's extremely clear what you need to do to make a product." The company, founded in 2014 as a University of Oxford spinout formerly known as Oxbotica, designs software and hardware that can be fitted onto existing vehicles produced by original equipment manufacturers. According to Reuters, Oxa can convert a heavy-duty port truck into an autonomous unit in under a day. Its technology is used for towing and carrying goods at ports, airports, and manufacturing facilities, as well as for asset and perimeter monitoring at solar farms and industrial plants. Expansion Plans and Growing Investor Confidence The latest round brings Oxa's total funding to over $250 million and will support expansion across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East. Its customers include DHL, BP, and Japanese logistics firm Vantec. "The capital will supercharge the development of our technology, enabling our industrial customers to benefit from significant productivity gains, lower operational costs and increased workplace safety, sooner," Newman said. The National Wealth Fund's Oliver Holbourn called the investment a potential "significant boost to growth and productivity in the UK, creating an industry worth billions of pounds, generating thousands of well-paid jobs." A Busy Period for UK Autonomous Driving The funding arrives during a wave of investment in British self-driving companies. Late last month, Wayve, which is working with Uber on robotaxis and with several automakers on driver-assistance technology, announced a $1.2 billion Series D round. The UK government has also been preparing to launch driverless taxi and bus trials on British roads. Oxa expects to raise additional Series D funding by the end of the first half of 2026.
