Concerns Over Gig Worker Exploitation Despite these claims, many people worry about how gig workers—who already face tough working conditions—will be affected. Comedian Kunal Kamra criticized Blinkit and other delivery apps like Zomato and Swiggy, accusing them of exploiting workers with long hours and low pay. In a viral social media post, he demanded transparency on wages, working hours, and accident compensation, saying: "These platforms exploit gig workers. They aren’t job creators, they are landlords without owning land." Although Blinkit claims that workers can earn up to ₹50,000 (£467) per month, many delivery agents disagree. A delivery worker, Dinesh Nalam, shared that making ₹25,000 (£234) is already difficult, and earning ₹40,000 (£374) is extremely rare. Reports from Bengaluru and Hyderabad show per-delivery earnings as low as ₹24 (£0.22) and ₹50 (£0.46). India’s Ambulance Shortage India has long struggled with ambulance shortages. A 2020 report showed only 7,814 registered ambulances in the country. This number increased to 14,236 in 2021 due to the COVID-19 crisis but has since dropped to 11,950 in 2023. During the pandemic, many patients died waiting for ambulances, highlighting the need for better emergency services.
