Russia announced Wednesday it is restricting voice and video calls on WhatsApp and Telegram, claiming the messaging platforms refuse to cooperate with law enforcement in fraud and terrorism cases. WhatsApp, the Meta-owned messaging platform, has banned over 98 lakh (9.8 million) Indian accounts in June as part of its ongoing crackdown against abuse and harmful activities on the platform. This massive enforcement action underscores the company's intensified efforts to combat fraud, spam, and misinformation across its largest user base globally.
