Why More Argentinians Are Seeking Croatian Citizenship There’s a growing trend among Argentinian nationals to apply for Croatian citizenship. This increase in interest is driven by several factors, including the strength of Croatia’s passport and the benefits it offers, such as easier travel and work opportunities within the European Union. Croatia’s passport is one of the most powerful in the world, ranking 17th on the VisaGuide.World Passport Index. It allows visa-free travel to 99 countries and requires visas for only 22. For many Argentinians, especially those with Croatian heritage, obtaining Croatian citizenship means gaining access to the EU, which is a significant advantage. In recent years, Croatia has granted citizenship to thousands of South Americans, with Argentinians leading the way. Between 2020 and August 2024, Croatia approved 5,581 citizenship applications from Argentinians. Other South American countries, such as Chile, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil, also saw significant numbers of their nationals becoming Croatian citizens. Despite the high demand, the process of obtaining Croatian citizenship can be challenging. For example, in the city of Zadar, only 250 citizenship requests were processed last year. This suggests that while interest is high, the application process is strict and not everyone succeeds. For many Argentinians, holding a Croatian passport is more than just a travel convenience—it’s a gateway to new opportunities in Europe. As Croatia continues to attract interest from abroad, its citizenship remains a valuable asset for those looking to expand their horizons.
